Job Description:
This position is located in Skokie at 4711 Golf Rd.

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for assisting Physicians, Mid-Level Practitioners, and Registered Nurse with the evaluation, management and treatment of patients in an ambulatory care setting. The CMA assumes responsibility for maintaining patient flow, cleaning/organizing of exam and treatment rooms, and performing basic skills such as vital signs and point of care testing. In addition, the CMA will administer intramuscular injections, immunizations, and other-the-counter medications under the direction of a Physician. The position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
-Performs patient intake: vital signs, height and weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other interventions as required.
-Prepares patient for exam based on reason for visit.
-Prepares and supports patient and assists provider with procedures.
-Reviews appointment schedules and ensures all patient charts are available for the visit.
-Reviews patient charts and ensures that all ancillary reports and required paperwork are available to the provider at the time of visit.
-Performs basic lab and testing procedures according to standards.
-Performs phlebotomy and EKGs.
-Administers over-the-counter medications, injections including immunizations as ordered by physician.
-Demonstrates appropriate population specific techniques with patients.
-Documents administration of over-the-counter medications and/or other medications in the patient medical record per policy.
-Cleans, prepares and stock exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations.
-Calls patients regarding follow-up test, results, medical instruction, and patient education under the direction of a Physician.
-Call in prescriptions under the direction of a Physician.
-Documents patient care information in the outpatient medical record according to standards.
-Assists with scheduling or patient test, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
-Assists in the care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
-Maintains the inventory of medical and linen supplies.
-Maintains quality control for equipment.
-Provides cross coverage to the other clinical areas as assigned.
-Participates in quality improvement projects.
-Follows appropriate practice guidelines as approved by practice physician.
-All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
-Current Medical Assistant Certification/Registration by AAMA, AMT, or NCCT (must include principles and techniques of injections and medication administration.)
-Graduate of Medical Assistant Program.
-Current CPR Certification.
-Minimum of 1-year clinical experience preferred.
-Basic computer skills.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Excellent organizational skills.
