We are a commercial real estate design firm located in downtown Chicago, looking for a dynamic Interior Architect with exceptional creativity, leadership, technical, people, research and sourcing skills. We seek a long term relationship; however, an exciting, multi-year project requires design leadership now.

The Opportunity:
We are embarking on a national program to upgrade and rebrand several dozen university campuses in several major cities. All were built at different times by different architects and vary in size, shape and condition. All sites, therefore, will require individualized upgrade strategies to reflect each environment’s needs. Concurrently, we will be creating new brand experiences throughout each campus to communicate a modern approach to education and greater alignment with the goals of their national brand. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to re-shape conventional centers for learning into more inspirational mediums; holistic facilities that will define ‘learning’ as something more than just a means to an end.

We are looking for a high energy individual to co-captain this opportunity; a confident designer with strong, core architectural skills, an appreciation for graphic design and how to apply it within the context of their work, strong interior design and sourcing skills; someone with extraordinary presentation skills able to present their concepts, designs and ideas in ways that will win the hearts and minds of our respective clients and their advisors. We seek an interior architect who understands this target customer — prospective students, current students, faculty and staff.

Our work on this project will be mostly non-technical in nature, that is, all working drawings will be done by a strategic partner. The principal value that we bring is in the power of our vision, planning, sourcing, pricing and ability to translate these into capital efficient, new brand experiences.

We seek someone who can design, color, source and price at the same time; someone with the ability to research furniture, lighting, signage, way-finding , wall-covering, flooring and other materials befitting the common areas of similar public buildings.

Last, but not least, we seek a sincere, open-minded ‘people person’, someone that our clients will come to trust. The success of these projects depends significantly on this individual’s ability to engage and enroll clients, inspire confidence as an ambassador of Sage Alliances and, above all, demonstrate a natural enthusiasm for the goals of the project.

Requirements:
• You must have at least THREE (3) years minimum work experience managing and designing either corporate, commercial or hospitality projects
• You must have a Bachelor’s in Architecture or a BFA in Interior Architecture.
• You must have some experience with specifying materials through local or national vendors
• You must have overall project strategy skills, from feasibility and analysis through sourcing, budgeting and delivery
• You will report to the firm’s principal and must be a self starter, an advocate for detail, and highly organized.
• AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up, Microsoft Suite or other 3D modeling
• Good visual presentation skills; architectural sketches, hand renderings.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills; a patient and generous listener; an engaging personality; an advocate of extraordinary customer service
• Proven ability to build, lead and manage creative teams
• Full accountability for account planning, customer satisfaction and project delivery
• Licensed in the State of Illinois

As we expand our client base, we would like to add a project architect to our staff who has 7 – 10 years experience with preservation, historic structures, facility analyses, and building science and technology.

The successful candidate will lead project teams on diverse repair, renovation and adaptive reuse projects as well as participate in corporate marketing, strategic planning, and client management. Altusworks’ current clients and project types include: Façade repairs for University of Illinois at Chicago; interior renovations of laboratories at the University of Chicago; renovation of an historic fieldhouse for the Chicago Park District; an 8,900 s.f. build-out for a new office condo, renovation of an historic storefront located in the Historic Michigan Boulevard District, ADA surveys and Schematic Design renovation solutions for Chicago Public Schools.

Prior experience must include preservation projects, project management and construction document development. The candidate should display a solid understanding of building repair technology and should have experience preparing technical specifications. The candidate should have the ability to evaluate conditions in the field based on visual observation and then quickly generate a scope of work that describes the required repairs/renovations. Equally important is the ability to communicate with clients, consultants, contractors and co-workers effectively and professionally at all times, both verbally and in written documents. The candidate must be proficient in ACAD2007 and Microsoft Office.
